Every two years, the UIL realigns the districts and a lot a people around 5-5A were a more than a little happy when they saw that Southlake Carrol was moving out of 5-5A……then they kept reading and found out that Euless Trinity was moving in.
Trinity won the Class 5A-Division I state title last season and is bidding for a third crown in the past four years. With six starters back on both sides of the ball, the Trojans are a consensus overall No. 1 team to start the season in Texas. They also have returning strength in all facets of their lineup, including quarterback and the other skill positions, and have some solid building blocks up front, as well.
Head coach Steve Lineweaver, who has gone 89-16 in eight years at Trinity (including 40-3 the past three years), remains guarded, offering no bulletin board material for opponents:
“We should find out early about our team since we play a Louisiana power [John Curtis of River Ridge] on Labor Day in a televised game at Texas Stadium,” Lineweaver said. “After that, we will face two area rivals in Cedar Hill and Allen. You can’t take any weeks off, but we hope to keep things going in the right direction.”
Keller High faces Trinity at thier place on my son’s birthday….September 26th.
Keller Central faces them also at their place, but on 10/17.
Fossil faces them at the improved Keller Stadium on 10/2.
If your son plays for one of the KISD Varsity Football teams, I wish them the best this year. I just hope that Trinity doesn’t put too much of a pounding on our teams.
On the bright side, Trinity’s Baseball team hasn’t been near the powerhouse of Southlake. And their kids won’t be wearing their “I used to live in Keller, but then my dad got a job” shirts.
