The New Republic has an article about Chicago and their demographic inversion that has been going on for the last 20 years or so. I’ve seen it first hand and it’s amazing that you can safely go to anywhere in Chicago these days and feel safe.
Section 8 vouchers and the demolition of the high density projects have a lot to do with it, but you got to give Mayor Daley a lot of credit. You see it happening to a smaller extent in Uptown in Dallas and Downtown and in the Medical District in Fort Worth. Shannon and I talked about possibly buying a condo downtown Ft. Worth when all of our kids are finally grown and off the dole.
There is still the problems with schools. In affluent North Dallas the kids attend private schools rather than risk attending DISD schools. I always loved the older section of Oak Cliff, but couldn’t afford to live there and send all my kids to private schools.
